Switching to a natural skincare routine can be daunting at first, but with a few changes here and there it can be an ultra rewarding change to make. There’s no doubt about it, our skin is happier when using natural products which aren't filled with chemicals. When we put products on our skin, a lot of the product in absorbed into our bloodstream, meaning whatever ingredients are in the product are now in our bodies - natural skincare is as important as natural eating. Lots of natural skincare companies now use ingredients which you might find in your food cupboard, meaning they are safe for our skin and bodies.
If you don’t know where to start, then don’t fear, today we’re sharing our tips for developing a natural skincare routine.
Avoid products with ingredients you don’t recognise and opt for ones which contain food safe ingredients and natural oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil and almond oil. It’s also a good idea to read up on products to avoid as this eliminates a lot of synthetic ingredients from the products you choose to buy.
2. use products for lots of purposes
Ever noticed that a lot of products which claim to do different things actually contain very similar (if not the same) ingredients? That’s because brands like to make money, and they do this through marketing products as having different functions to each other, such as cleansers, moisturisers, body oils etc. Once you’ve found a natural product that works for you, see if it will act in place of lots of different products - can your face oil work as a makeup remover and cleanser? Can your natural healing balm act as a lip balm, face moisturiser, cut healer or more? Save your skin and your money through using one product for lots of uses.
3. Exfoliate your lips naturally
Use a toothbrush to gently exfoliate your lips and then cover your lips in a natural lip balm - no need for harsh chemicals here, or a different product, just use what you use everyday (toothbrush and lip balm) to exfoliate naturally.
4. Coconut oil
Such a wonder product, coconut oil can be used for almost everything skincare related. Use it to remove makeup, whiten teeth, nourish hair, moisturise face and body and more! Just melt a little bit it in your hands to use as a makeup remover (ideally with a bamboo face cloth) or to moisturise your skin. For whitening teeth, place about half a teaspoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swill it around for 5-20 minutes depending on how long you can stand it. For a hair mask, melt coconut oil in your hands and run it through your hair - leave in for half an hour to an hour and rinse out, then wash hair as normal.
